Fire officers arrived to find 25ft high flames covering a 15sq m radius and battled the blaze for more than three hours .

A spokesman for the fire service said: "There was a small garden waste fire which seems to have spread to a large stack of sleepers. The owner of the property called 999 and we turned out. The fire was quite large and we could see it as we approached the farm.

"We used two hose reels and had to ferry water from a fire hydrant some distance away.

"The fire was close to a barn but luckily we managed to stop it spreading and confined it to the railway sleepers.
