The driving force behind the launch of Penwortham’s new food bank project has spoken of his intentions.
Rev Nick Mansfield of St Leonard’s C of E Church in Pope Lane, Penwortham, said there is a real need for the scheme in the area.
He said: “There is a real mixed community in Penwortham and that’s the great joy of being here.
“I’ve had people asking for help on the doorstep, and I won’t give them money, but I will take them shopping.
“I thought why not expand that out to meet the needs of the community?”
The scheme aims to provide tinned goods enough to last three to four days for each family in need.
The launch event takes place at 10am on April 5 at Kingsfold Community Centre in Kingsfold Drive.
The food bank is being run by members of Penwortham Churches Together, with Penwortham Town Council.
