Woodplumpton & District WI - April 2009
We welcomed 40 members, and guests from Great Eccleston WI to our March meeting when we were encouraged to become "Rotters" by an enthusiastic team from the Home Composting Unit.
Peter Ryder and Alison Kaberry explained clearly how we could convert our garden and household waste into beautiful, free compost.
Peter caught our interest by likening compost making to cake baking; you need the right quantities of suitable ingredients and leave them to "cook" gently for up to 12 months in a composting bin.
So by layering soft greenery with some crunchy stems, adding some scrunched up paper and cardboard with occasional pinches of animal hair, tea bags, coffee grounds and even the contents of the vacuum cleaner we should all now be able to produce usable compost to make our gardens grow.
Our competition was won by Maureen Cunningham with her delicious biscuits.
We meet on the last Tuesday evening of each month at Woodplumpton and District Club on Bartle Lane. Next month we are having a Hobbies Evening, and local ladies are invited to join our friendly group and have a taster session of the Hobbies on offer.
