Family life is now found behind the wheel

Motoring mothers are using car journeys to talk to their children because they don't have time to talk at home, a survey claims to have discovered.

As many as 11% of mothers offered their children lifts specifically so they could spend time talking to them, the research from an insurance company claims to suggest.

The poll also claims it had revealed 56% of mothers found it easier to talk to their children in a car as they were fewer distractions, with 5% taking advantage of the limited eye contact to discuss sensitive subjects such as relationships and sex education.

A spokesman for the company said: "As long hours at work and busy social lives are becoming the norm, grappling for extra time to spend with the kids is increasingly common."
