Family distraught after pet cats 'are poisoned'

A cat killing spree has left two families devastated.

Police are investigating reports cats have died in suspicious circumstances in Preston and Kirkham.

Cacie Wilson, 22, of The Mede, in Kirkham, believes her beloved black tabbies Mimi and Binx were poisoned.

On Monday evening her dad Tony noticed an unusual shape through the window and went out to find Mimi slumped on a wall opposite their home.

When her other black cat Binx did not return the next morning, Tony went out and began scouring the streets.

He found Binx lying dead in a ditch 100 yards from home, with its collar having been removed and left in the road.

They took the cats to the vet who confirmed the deaths were consistent with poisoning.

Cacie, who works in Preston as a receptionist, said: "We were all absolutely distraught.

"I was crying all night but we thought the other one was roaming around.

"He usually comes in, in the morning but when he was not there at 9am we got worried. My dad was out and he found Binx 100 yards away."

Cacie and Tony along with her mum Kerstin, began talking to their neighbours about it and discovered there had been another death.

She said: "We spread the word and a neighbour said that around the corner someone who has a cat experienced exactly the same thing.

"We think somebody left rat poison in some food. It is so shocking and you do not expect it to happen where you live."
