Closure of village recycling centre cost council £1,000

The household waste recycling centre, at Claughton-on-Brock, near Garstang, was shut down last year.

It was one of four which closed its doors as part of a cost-cutting drive by the county council.

And it was hugely unpopular with residents. A petition launched against the scheme attracted thousands of signatures.

Now a Freedom of Information request tabled by a member of the public has revealed the council spent just £916.27 closing it down.

Moving a memorial to a worker who was killed on the site cost £598.91. Two banners erected at the site cost an additional £150.

And placing large stones at the entrance cost £167.36.
