RAIL services north of Preston have been hit by storm damage.

Winds of up to 60mph caused a large tree to fall on the line in Lambrigg near Kendal overnight, ripping out overhead power lines.

Replacement buses are currently operating between Preston and Carlisle, and only one train an hour is able to run between Penrith and Oxenholme while repair work is carried out.

A spokesman for Network Rail said the work should be completed by the end of service today, with no further disruptions anticipated.
