Preston's green spaces win Green Flag Awards

Preston's parks have been listed as some of the very best in the UK.

The city’s green spaces are among a record-breaking 1,686 that will on Thursday receive a prestigious Green Flag Award.

The award, now celebrating its 20th year, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country.

The parks and open spaces in Preston awarded for 2016 are Avenham and Miller Parks, Ashton Park, Haslam Park and Fishwick Bottoms.

In addition, the Friends of Haslam Park have retained a Green Flag Community award for their volunteer management of the sensory garden and the local nature reserve.

Cabinet member for community and environment, Coun Robert Boswell, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive multiple Green Flag Awards for Preston from Keep Britain Tidy.

“These awards recognise and highlights that Prestonians and visitors to our city are benefitting from green spaces of the very highest quality.”

International Green Flag Award scheme manager, Paul Todd, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme.”
