FLOOD defence at one of Lancashire’s leading aerospace manufacturer’s is to get a boost.

BAE Systems has applied to Fylde Council for permission to improve flood relief facilities at it’s Warton site near Preston.

The main reason for the development is to prevent the flooding of an existing service tunnel under a hangar at the main site, off Lytham Road.

Plans submitted to the council show a new flood defence wall will be created along with a new opening through the existing wall to create an escape route with new concrete slab and handrails on retaining walls, new road drains and a new flood defence gate and associated upper foundation.

State-of-the art emergency lighting is to be installed internally and externally .

Other works will include re-routing an existing drain and current openings will be bricked in.

The plan is not said to affect properties in the area.
