Campaigners against a housing development in Preston have stepped up their campaign by placing placards in protest at the plans in their gardens.

Boards reading: ‘Hedgerows, not Redrows’ and ‘Don’t be insane’ have been put up outside premises on Lightfoot Lane in Fulwood.

As reported by the Evening Post in November, house-builder Redrow has unveiled plans to build 330 new homes with the potential to increase to 800 on land off Lightfoot Lane.

The plans were submitted just days after planners gave the go ahead for a 1,100 homes to go up at Cottam Hall.

The homes come on top of 450 properties given approval at neighbouring Haydock Grange at Higher Bartle, despite objections

Coun Julie Buttle, who represents Lea on the city council and is clerk of Woodplumpton Parish Council said the concern amongst local people relates to the amount of traffic that could end up using the lanes around the proposed development site.

She said people want to see a “masterplan” of what impacts traffic could potentially have.

She said: “As a councillor in an adjoining ward I am concerned about it.

“How can they predict how much traffic there will be.

“There are many unknowns.”

Bob McBride, is a member of the newly-formed Lightfoot Lane Area Residents Association (LLARA) , and is displaying a board in his garden.

The proposed access to the new development would be directly opposite his large, detached home.

He said: “We have been told that construction for the whole of this development could last up to nine years, and this lane is just not adequate for all the 40 ton trucks that would be coming up and down it.

“Also, this has een designated as part of the new Guild Wheel, so there is a public safety problem.

“There is also an infrastructure problem.

“There is nothing north of Preston in terms of employment, so all of the extra traffic will have to go down the A6 or the M6, and that is going to be horrendous.”
