Two Lancashire naturalists have publsihed a book to help wildlife lovers spot and identify dragonflies.

The county has around 24 species and Steve White and Philip H Smith have published The Dragonflies of Lancashire and North Merseyside, to help tell species apart.

Species in the region include the vividly named emerald damsel-fly, red-eyed damsel-fly, emperor dragonfly, golden-ringed dragonfly, four-spotted chaser and red-veined darter. You can buy the book or get more details from the Lancashire and Cheshire Fauna at www.lacfs.org.uk/.
