Preston residents are being asked to take care when putting out their rubbish and be patient with collection teams during the bad weather.

The recent high winds and weather conditions may cause delays to waste collections.

Waste containers are likely to be windblown and may cause an increase in litter in the area.

A spokesman for Preston City Council said; “Please try to position your containers where they are least likely to be affected by the wind.

“If you only have small quantities of waste or recycling please consider whether you may be able to manage until your next collection.

“All collections should go ahead as normal and we will endeavour to leave areas as tidy as possible but we would appreciate your patience in this matter.”

Brown compost bin collections will resume on Monday January 13.

Any extra recycling whixch has been affected by Christmas collection dates can be left in untied carrier bags along with the recycling boxes and it will be collected.

in 2013 Preston city council recycled 35% of waste in the city.
