County council’s cut-price deal on autumn compost bins

Cut-price compost bins are the perfect place to put your kitchen peelings and garden leaves this autumn, according to Lancashire County Council.

People are being urged to snap up a discount offer, which will keep them supplied with compost and help to reduce the amount of waste the county sends to landfill.

The partnership between the county council and getcomposting.com means you can get a quality bin for around half the price you would pay elsewhere. A 220 litre bin is £21.50 and a 330 litre bin is £24.50, including delivery.

CCounty Coun Albert Atkinson, deputy leader of Lancashire County Council with responsibility for waste, said: “It’s easy to make compost and a better way to use kitchen and garden waste than putting it in the bin.

“Not only can you keep your garden or pots supplied with the nutrients they need, you can help to cut carbon emissions and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.”

Cat Holden, waste management officer, said: “Lots of things we throw away can go towards making compost at home, and the wet summer we’ve had means it’s an ideal time to get started with an abundance of garden clippings available.

“As well as green garden waste, you can compost items including fruit and vegetable peelings, egg shells, tea bags, pet hair, vacuum cleaner dust, coffee grounds and cardboard.”

The discounts are available thanks to the regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnerships, which work to get a better deal for councils in delivering local services.

The scheme is not subsidised by Lancashire County Council.

To order your compost bin call 0844 571 4444 or visit www.lancashire.getcomposting.com.

A variety of sizes and composting accessories are also available at special offer prices.
