A bad boy of TV soap Emmerdale will switch on the Christmas lights in Morecambe.

Michael Parr, who plays Ross Barton in the ITV1 show, headlines a big day of events in the town on Saturday November 22, including a Santa parade and a Dickensian festival.

Parr’s crooked character was at the centre of a major storyline in Emmerdale this year surrounding the death of his on-screen girlfriend, Donna Dingle (played by Verity Rushworth).

The 27-year-old heartthrob will also switch on lights on Victoria Street as part of this weekend’s Dickensian Festival.

Morecambe rock ‘n’ roll band The Paul Hayes Collection, fronted by TV personality Paul Hayes, will also perform in the Arndale starting at 1pm.

Father Christmas will parade down Victoria Street from 1.30pm, arriving in his Grotto in the Arndale at 2pm.

The switch-on in the Arndale by Michael Parr will be at approximately 2pm, and the switch-on on Victoria Street will be at 6pm.

Characters from Red Rose Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society’s upcoming production of ‘White Christmas’ at the Winter Gardens will also be on hand.

The switch-on coincides with the ‘Go Morecambe’ Dickensian Festival on Victoria Street and at the Winter Gardens car park from 10am to 8pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

There will be Christmas crafts stalls, fairground rides, a bar and live music on the Winter Gardens car park.

The Dickensian Festival has been part-funded by Morecambe Town Team using funds given to the town as part of the Government’s ‘Mary Portas Pilot Town’ project.

Lancaster Christmas lights switch-on is at 5.30pm on Sunday in Market Square.

It will include a performance by city X Factor star Paul Akister and headline act, 2010 X Factor winner Matt Cardle.
