An elderly woman has been left with a serious head injury after falling on a bus in Preston.

At about 1.30pm on Wednesday, the 85-year-old was travelling on a double-decker bus along Sharoe Green Lane, when the bus stopped to give way at a zebra crossing near Booths.

It is thought the woman got up out of her seat but, when the bus set off again, she fell backwards and hit her head on a step at the back of the bus.

She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where she was being treated for a serious head injury.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Road policing officer PC Dave Hurst said: “This woman is very poorly and we are asking anyone who may have seen the woman as she fell on the bus to get in contact.” Call 101.
