AN elderly man lost this thumb after he was attacked by a dog.

Police were called to an address in Leyland on Monday afternoon shortly before 1.30pm following reports that a man had been attacked by a Japanese Akita.

The 73-year-old man was taken to hospital where he also underwent several hours of surgery.

A family member said: “The dog was always quite lively but this is the first time she has attacked anyone.”

The victim is recovering well in hospital.

The dog will be destroyed.
