The countdown is on for Preston’s Easter celebrations and there promises to be a host of entertainment, festivals, markets, funfairs and theatre shows.
And the traditional egg rolling event on Avenham and Miller parks will return on Easter Monday.
The popular event which attracts thousands will take place between 10.30am and 4pm.
With egg rolls taking place on the hour throughout the day
The parks will be brought to life through the magical world of Easterland, encompassing live music, mad scientists, puppet shows and a giant Victorian robot.
Easter trails will lead visitors along the paths to different points on the parks including the permanent structures of the Belvedere and Swiss Chalet, which will host live entertainment and creative workshops.
The Easter bonnet competition will take place at 2pm at the Pavilion, with Bonnet making workshops held across the mornings programme.
Coun Tom Burns, cabinet member for leisure said: “This is a great traditional event that the whole family looks forward to at Easter.
“Using the structures and pathways of the Victorian parks is a great way to integrate the parks into the programme, helping visitor’s explore and discover new areas for themselves.
“The event programme brings something new each year but still keeps the core traditional elements off egg rolling and the bonnet competition.
“This year is set to be as exciting as ever.”
To prepare for the egg rolling families can take part in a Hands on History of the event at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery this afternoon.
Families will be encouraged to look at wooden eggs used in egg rolling events around 100 years ago before decorating their own polystyrene egg to roll.
Other events taking place over Easter include the Lancashire Market on Saturday March 30 between 10am and 5pm.
A screening of the Preston Passion will be held at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery on Wednesday April 3.
