A Lancashire university has launched its first ever graduate training scheme.
The new initiative, at Edge Hill, will provide four graduates from any UK university with the training, skills and experience to succeed in a career either within or beyond the higher education sector.
Over two years, they will spend six months in placements across four different department.
Duties and responsibilities will vary depending on each placement, and each graduate trainee will work on projects with clear targets to showcase their achievements.
Initiatives they could be working on include launching a student-run record label, social media marketing, dealing with businesses, working with the TV studio manager or supporting high-profile research.
The aim of the scheme is to provide trainees with a structured programme where they can develop their knowledge and expertise.
Placements are open to anyonewho has achieved with an upper second class degree in the last two years.
Vice-chancellor Dr John Cater said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to join an ambitious, rapidly-growing university at a challenging, but exciting time.
“Despite the difficult market in higher education, Edge Hill is bucking the national trend and has seen applications to study increase five-fold in the past 10 years.
“We are also the top performing university in the North-West region for employability, with 93.4 per cent of graduates in work or further study, and we want to build on this statistic even further by offering more graduates new opportunities.
“As a result of our progress, I’m delighted that we are able to offer this new incentive for recent graduates.
“Trainees will have the opportunity to develop their employability skills in four interesting and rewarding placements within the University, carrying out vital project-based work which will give invaluable experience whilst enhancing university services and programmes for our current and future students.”
“We are expecting a great response to this scheme.”
