A holiday in Tunisia proved a real life-changer for Natalia Piecyk after romance blossomed into true love leading to her leaving Poland to join boyfriend Jon Acornley.
The now 23-year-old has settled in Leyland, has a fiancé, a baby daughter AND a first class honours degree to her credit.
She said: “I had learned English at school but after I met Jon on holiday I decided to come here.”
Natalia, who hails from Gniezno near Poznan, signed up for a business studies/ administration degree at the University of Central Lancashire.
While on her placement year she was pregnant, and after finishing that went on maternity leave, returning to her studies when baby Anna was 11 months old.
Natalia said; “It was hard but we’ve got through it.” She relied on partner Jon , who worked part-time, to look after the baby along with his parents and friends.
The young mum added: ”I had to study when she was asleep, as it was hard to study when she was up. She had a nap in the day and that’s when I would study. Then after 7pm when she was in bed was my time to do my work.
“I got a first and couldn’t believe it. It was hard but definitely well worth it.
“I have been working at a bar just to get me through university and pay the bank now I am working for Blackpool Pleasure beach in accounts part time.
“I was so shy when I first moved here. On my first day at university I took Jon with me because I was so scared to go on my own.
“I’ve had a really good time, really good support and am really, really glad I came to UCLan .
“I have some really good memories and am hoping to come back to do my masters.
“At the moment I am doing qualifications for AAT and am hoping to be fully qualified accountant. I will give myself three or four years to get qualified.”
Jon added: “There have been times when we haven’t spent a lot of time together but it has been worth it.”
