SINGLE mum Faye Ollis, was dancing for joy when she graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with a distinction in MSc in business management.
During the ceremony the 37-year-old mother of two was also awarded the course’s inaugural prize for ‘Most Outstanding Contribution on the Course’, which was sponsored by the company FDM.
She initially graduated with her first degree from the University of Surrey in 1998 and went on to qualify as a dance and performing arts teacher.
Faye said: “I lived and worked in London and then Leamington Spa for a number of years before moving back to Lancashire in 2009.
“I was born and bred in Kirkham, my family is based there and as you can imagine holding down a full-time job away from the region while looking after two children was a difficult juggling act.”
She moved back in 2009 and enrolled on a Zumba class. “I really enjoyed it and my teacher said I should become an instructor. I figured that studying business management at UCLan would give me the skills to help make a success of my own Zumba dance business.
“Graduating with this degree has given me a real sense of achievement. There were times when I thought I’d have to give it up but my course tutor Owen Leeds was so supportive and helped to get me through. The practical aspects of the programme, such as the HR and accountancy modules, have proved to be really useful.”
Her career took a new turn when she landed a full-time student services officer role at the sixth form centre of Moor Park High School & Sixth Form and teaches dance twice a week.
