Green-fingered students are planning to create their own secret garden in the heart of their campus.

The oasis of calm is set to become a forest garden in the heart of the University of Central Lancashire’s Preston campus.

The Green Ladder project is clearing and re-designing the 'secret garden' area within the UCLan campus in Preston.

Once complete it will provide students and staff with fruit trees, green surroundings and comfortable outdoor seating.

This is the first of four areas on campus to be transformed through student-led projects and community engagement.

The garden is part of the Student Union Green Ladder Project, which is one of 25 national projects taking place in universities funded via the NUS Student Green Fund.

UCLan Students’ Union received £200,000 to set up volunteering in the community, as well as looking to transform the campus in order to embed sustainability into the campus, and into students’ lives. This is the first time students have been offered the opportunity to take ownership of the campus in this way.
