While Britain’s athletes are hoping for medals in the Winter Olympics, Preston’s budding young stars of the future have been putting their own sporting talents to the test.
The 2014 Preston City Indoor Athletics took place over two days at Preston’s College with under 12 and under 13 competitors from all the local high schools.
The action saw youngsters competing in six running events and five field events each day.
Both the boys and girls’ teams from Corpus Christi Catholic High took bronze medals in their respective events, with silver going to Archbishop Temple CE High boys and Our Lady’s Catholic High School girls.
The Under 12 champion’s title was lifted by Broughton Business and Enterprise College in both the boys and girls events.
The Under 13 event saw Archbishop Temple boys and Our Lady’s Catholic High teams bagging the gold medals.
Dean Brandwood, Preston City Council’s school games organiser said: “Preston’s College students did an outstanding job of officiating and managing the two day event.
“We wish all the winning teams the best of luck as they now represent Preston at the Sainsbury’s School Games Lancashire Finals to be held on February 13 .”
