Pedalling a link between science and sport

Science and sport join forces in a special roadshow aimed at encouraging young people to engineer a brighter future.

BAE Systems is working in partnership with the Royal Air Force and UK Sport to bring the Education Roadshow to pupils across 24 Lancashire schools.

Using theatre and interactive workshops, the team aims to give young people an insight into the world of technology and engineering.

The show 'guest stars' silver medal winning cyclist Emma Pooley, to highlight the vital role engineers play in helping athletes achieve success.

The theatre performance sees a young girl and her dad working with Emma Pooley, via pre-recorded video clips, to develop a new racing bike.

Emma said: "Activities like the BAE Systems Education Programme Roadshow are a fantastic way of inspiring young people to be our engineers of the future. Athletes like me, who are competing on the world stage, work very closely with scientists and engineers to improve our performance and help to keep the UK on top of the game."
