Lancashire students share experience

A group of Edge Hill University students have been talking about their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after working with athletes who competed in the 2012 Olympics Games.

Athletes from American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands and Palau, trained on the university’s Ormskirk campus in preparation for London 2012.

The student volunteers helped to deliver training sessions and helped them acclimatise to their new environment before they travelled to London for the start of the games.

Second year physical education and school sport students Carl Unsworth and Nicholas Markwick were training assistants and their duties involved supporting the athletes with their training needs such as transporting equipment and generally making them feel at ease during their time on campus.

Carl said: “To have the opportunity to work with Olympic athletes was fantastic.”
