THE past year has gone swimmingly for Balshaw’s CE High School pupil Kyo Tanner.
A keen swimmer, the 13-year-old juggles a busy training schedule around his school day.
Kyo used to swim for the Leyland Barracudas ASC and now swims with Preston Swimming, training before and after school, during the weekend and even in the holidays.
So far it has paid off as earlier this year Kyo took part in the Lancashire County Championships.
He achieved 16 qualifying times and collected eight gold medals, three silvers and a bronze.
The year eight pupil has also qualified for 16 events in the North West Regional Summer Championships.
There he scooped 10 more medals including three golds.
Later this month Kyo will be travelling to Sunderland to represent North West schools at the English School Swimming Divisional Championships and has been invited to swim in the English and British Championships in August.
Last year Kyo made it to British Nationals with the qualifying times of 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle and he came fifth in the finals in 100m freestyle.
This meant that he was the fourth fastest in Britain in 2014.
In the current British rankings, he is the fastest in 50m freestyle event.
Tutors at the Church Road school said they are very proud of the way the teenager manages to juggle school life with swimming.
