The Irish rugby league team will launch their Word Cup 2013 campaign in Preston.

The University of Central Lancashire has been selected as the official training venue for the squad during the competition.

UCLan is the only university and the only venue in Lancashire to be chosen as a host venue for the 14 nation tournament being held in England and Wales next year.

Along with Preston City Council and the Marriott Hotel, the university bosses beat off tough competition from other venues in the selection process.

Irish international and Wigan Warriors player Pat Richards visited UCLan Sports Arena (USA), which will provide training facilities. He said: “I am really pleased that UCLan has been chosen as the host training venue for Ireland for 2013. The University provides a magnificent facility and I am sure the team and staff will be made most welcome here.”
