World Cup fever came to Preston when the Ireland Rugby League Squad training at UCLan Sports Arena and on hand to assist in the secondary schools invitation tournament.
The squad, who are using UCLan as a base and training facility during the tournament, were on hand to pass on tips to aspiring young players from across the city.
Dean Brandwood, Preston Sport and Health School Games organiser, said: ”It was a treat for all participants and teachers to meet the squad members before they start their World Cup challenge. Winners of the event were Longridge High School.”
He added: “Following on from last year’s Olympics which saw international athletes who trained at the UCLan Sports Arena meeting and going into Preston schools, Preston facilities have certainly attracted an international standard of athletes to train and influence the young aspiring sporting stars of the future.”
