Green-fingered Chris Farron has unveiled a plaque recognising his expert gardening work at Penwortham Priory Academy.

Chris, dad of Liberal Democrat leader Tim, was rewarded with the memento after his dedication helped the Crow Hills Road school win the secondaries section of Penwortham in Bloom.

The former engineer and building manager has transformed overgrown and abandoned areas into scenic spots with waterfalls, arches, paved areas and a colourful array of flowers.

Chris, who is retired and gardens for a hobby said:“I am proud if a little embarrassed.”

Head teacher Matt Eastham said: “It’s breathtaking, we were just so impressed with everything Chris has done.”

Mr Eastham, helped Chris celebrate the unveiling with South Ribble Mayor Mary Green.
