Richard McMunn, a former pupil at Balshaw’s High School in Church Road, launched How2become.com in 2005.

Born in Blackpool but brought up in Leyland, Richard founded the business after he wrote and self-published a book for prospective firefighters while he was still working as one.

He has since written more than 150 career guides with many becoming best sellers and is now one of the UK’s leading self-publishers of non-fiction books.

Now though Richard is offering schools, colleges and universities in Lancashire a free offer to supply them with £300 worth of careers books.

He said: “We realise that the budgets of educational establishments in Lancashire and throughout the country are extremely tight.

“So we are making this free offer to every school, college and university and I would urge them to take it up.

“I went to school in Lancashire and I hope I can give something back to schools and colleges in the county by giving them these career guides to help their students find a job which suits them.”
