A city school has proved it really is a centre of excellence.

Preston’s Corpus Christi Catholic Sports College in Fulwood has picked up five top awards in the past two years.

Three of them were collected in the past five months.

The latest accolade saw the St Vincent’s Road college receiving the Outstanding Sports Award at the Education Business Awards hosted by the Independent. The award ceremony was held at the Emirates Stadium, London.

This was the fourth national award and was in recognition of the school’s use of sports both for the benefit of its own pupils as well as as the wider community.

Corpus Christi is the popular venue for dozens of sporting fixtures and regularly host s competitive events for primary and secondary schools across the district.

The prize came hard on the heels of the TES Outstanding Business Development Award, awarded at a special ceremony which was in London in July.

This was for the unique partnership with Training 2000 to provide engineering for students from all over Preston at the school’s state of the art Engineering Centre.

It also reflected the “massive amount of income” the college generates through lettings and conferences, catering provided to external customers both in the college and at other venues.

Last month the school was presented with the Outstanding Secondary School of the Year By Rock FM.

Coprus Chrsti was toasting success in the summer of 2011 when it received a national Healthy Eating Award after picking up the Outstanding School Dinners in Britain title the previous year.

Acting headteacher Simon Hornshaw said: “We are both delighted and humbled to have been the recipients of five such prestigious national awards over such a short space of time.

“These awards are testament to how conscientiously and enthusiastically the whole staff at Corpus Christi Catholic Sports College work to ensure that our students have access to the best resources, facilities and opportunities to succeed.”

He added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank the sponsor of our latest national award in Sport - Collinson Complete Building Solutions, which is based in Garstang.”
