College wins hat-trick of awards
Preston's Moor Park Business and Enterprise College engineered a hat-trick of successes after hosting an emergency and services day.
The event, organised by Lancashire Education Business Partnership, involved a range of workshops and lectures by businesses and organisations.
Presenters ranged from Preston College and British Transport Police to BT Openreach and Galloway's Society For The Blind.
Special guest lectures were also given by space technology consultant Mark Williamson and Dr Alan Goodwin from The Royal Institute.
The theme for the day, involving more than 400 students, was awareness within emergency services with a broader spectrum linked to care and health and safety.
The idea came from the school's head of science Asif Sidat.
In total 20 workshops were set up for the students to visit in groups which rotated around the presenters during the course of the day.
The workshops were quite explosive – literally with Dr Alan Goodwin, of the Royal Institute, demonstrating a controlled explosion in his lecture focusing on chemical contacts and the misuse of substances.
The workshops were varied and graphic in making the students aware for the needs of safety.
The themes focused on road, rail, air and cycle safety.
Other themes focused on includedsessions giving an insight into people with disabilities and special needs.
Students were shown the basics of sign language.
The school, set on the edge of Moor Park in Deepdale, won two trophies at the Rotary Technology finals held at Hutton police headquarters.
