Sports facilities at a Lancashire college are to get a major boost.
Runshaw College in Leyland is in line for a £1.2m sports annexe, complete with eight new classrooms, two of which will be fitted with state-of-the-art IT equipment.
Spanning 770sqm, the building will stand alongside the current Hawkshead Sports Hall at the Langdale Road, campus.
It will include additional support areas, welfare and staff rooms and as well an accessible lift.
Work is due to start this week and is the latest in a string of multi-million pound improvements at the college over the past few years.
Local firm Conlon Construction has been appointed to deliver the project, which will see a two-storey block built to improve the college’s sports facilities.
The project is intended to centralise the School of Sport, releasing additional space for students across the college.
Assistant principal at the college, David Sharrock, said: “The plans to build an annexe to sit beside our existing sports hall are a really exciting development, it will centralise the School of Sport, giving this key area the facilities to be World Class.
“Conlon is a local firm with a wealth of experience in the education sector, so seemed the perfect fit for delivering the building project, having previously carried out projects on site.
Building firm chairman,Michael Conlon added: “We are delighted to have been awarded this project at Runshaw College, which will work to centralise all sports facilities.
“This investment by the college demonstrates its commitment to improving the learning and teaching facilities.”
