Big cash boost for college
A Lancashire college is to get a share of a multi-million pound cash windfall.
The Skills Funding Agency said Lancaster and Morecambe College is earmarked to get some of the £129 million Enhanced Renewal Grants for Colleges.
The £2m comes as the college is embarking on a self funded £10 million renewal project.
Principal and chief executive, David Wood said: “This is excellent news for us and for the local area.
“We are the only college is this locality to be granted the funding we are keen to ensure that the investment does not only benefit Lancaster and Morecambe College but has a positive impact on the area as a whole.
“We are planning a redevelopment project for the college which will start imminently, and this funding will contribute to the modernisation of our site and allow us to provide cutting edge facilities for our students, staff and the local community.”
The college’s redevelopment project will see new buildings and facilities being constructed over the next few years.
Among them will be a renewable energy centre, new hair and beauty salons and a state-of-the-art business conferencing centre.
Skills Funding Agency chief executive Geoff Russell said: “This investment reflects the crucial role that further education colleges have to play in providing skills to young people, adults and businesses, providing regeneration to local communities and the economy.”
