Artistic singers raise the roof

Young songbirds from Manor Road Primary School hit the high note when they took part in the county-wide Last Choir Singing competition.

After raising the roof competing against seven other schools, the Clayton-le-Woods team ended up winning the Artistic Expression award.

The choir sang a set song Open Your Eyes, featuring a solo from nine-year-old George Hodson, and Blame It On The Boogie, including disco dance moves and a large Afro wig from the conductor.

The 24-member choir, made up of pupils in years three to six, was set up 18 months ago.

Year five teacher and music co-ordinator Jay Brown said: “It really was a fantastic achievement considering the age and experience of our pupils.”
