Driving danger shown to PNE youth players

Waiting for Video...

The next generation of Preston North End football stars were among the young people shown the devastating effects of drink driving.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue firefighter Dave Burrow gave a talk to PNE’s U18 squad at the crashed car at the UCLAn Sports Arena, Cottam, Preston.

Educational programme Wasted Lives has combined with the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety to stage talks to highlight the risks associated with driving.

And a number of wrecked cars are currently touring Lancashire with the aim of challenging 17 to 24 year olds attitudes to driving.

Firefighter Burrow said: “We are targeting young males between 17 and 24, as statistics show that is the high risk age group.

“Young footballers are one of our prime targets, and we are trying to spread awareness of the risks involved with drink driving and speeding.

“The car and the videos really hit home, some of the players said they didn’t want to drive again.

“But we aren’t trying to stop people driving, we just want them to be aware of the risks.”
