Freezing fog and black ice made driving conditions treacherous across the North West today.

Snow fell across many parts of Lancashire and Greater Manchester last night, leaving motorways and country areas hazardous.

Patches of fog meant visibility was down to 50 yards in some places this morning.

Accidents on the M57 near Kirkby and the M62 near Huddersfield led to delays.

There were no major incidents in Lancashire, but motorway police have urged drivers be cautious as freezing temperatures return again tonight.
