The winner of Preston’s Got Talent has received an unexpected prize - the chance to duet with opera star Russell Watson.
When 13-year-old Nina Fahey of Chorley, took the competition crown last week her prize was a solo slot at Russell’s concert on December 6 at Preston Guild Hall.
But a week later, she was told that Russell has upped the offer, and wants her to join him singing The Prayer.
Nina said: “It’s incredible, it’s just ‘wow’.
“Russell has had incredible success and he’s someone I really admire.
“I’ve been practicing none stop since I found out, to make sure that it all perfect.”
Nina wowed judges of the talent competition, including former footballer Clarke Carlisle, by singing her own song called I Would Give.
She added: “I usually get a bit nervous before I go on stage, but once I’m there, I’m in my element.”
Nina’s mum Andrea said: “She’s terribly excited, I’m not sure that it’s all sunk in properly yet.
“Since she won the talent competition, it’s been one things after another. It’s a bit over-whelming.”
She added: “We knew that Nina would be singing at the concert, but to duet with Russell is something we didn’t expect. It’s wonderful.”
Paula Holmes, of the Katy Holmes Trust, which co-ordinated the talent competition, said: “This is such a wonderful opportunity for a fantastic 13-year-old trying to make her way in the entertainment world.
“We are extremely grateful to Russell for giving Nina and all of us this opportunity, he simply has a heart the size of the world to do what he has done.
“He really has no idea just what an impact this has had on us all too.
“Russell is the loveliest man and he has such a desire to help others, his passion for our cause is so deep and genuine and we are quite simply overwhelmed.”
