Claire Crutchley has achieved her lifetime’s ambition with her horse, Made By Design, by getting to Horse of the Year Show, something she has dreamed of since he was born.
The 33-year-old from Ribchester, near Preston, bred nine years old Made by Design, (stable name Rico), from her now-22-year-old mare, Floberon, who was bought for her by her grandad 18 years ago.
Claire said: “I have been riding since I was two years old and showed and did Pony Club with Floberan.
“My father and grandfather, Keith and Frank Crutchley were knowledgeable horsemen and competed successfully at carriage driving, winning numerous championships in private driving classes, so I have been involved and around horses all my life.”
Claire, who works as a company accountant for a bicycle manufacturer and is married to Ross, has qualified for a place in the Coloured Horse of the Year final .
She said: “When first place was pulled forward I already knew that they had qualified and that the qualification would be passed to second place, so when we were pulled second overall I burst into tears. I also thanked Made By Design for giving me our happiest showing memory to date.”
“It goes to show if you really want something and work hard at it you can achieve it, Rico is a true showman and friend and I love him with all my heart.”
