Dentist uses hypnotism at new clinic

A Lancashire dentist is putting his money where his mouth is and opening a new practice in Preston.

Dr Nadim Majid, who currently works as a dentist in Accrington treating both NHS and private patients, has invested 250,000 to open Lifestyle Dental on Garstang Road on September 4.

Even though Nadim will only be treating private patients, he believes he will offer a whole new dental experience for people and that it will help relieve the city's dental crisis.

Nadim claims he is the first dentist in the county to offer a holistic approach to dentistry by offering relaxation techniques such as hynotherapy and life coaching to customers wanting a winning smile.

He trained on a Paul McKenna hypnotherapy course and will use these skills to help people who have fears and phobias of the dentist.

Patients will be to see inside their own mouths via a mini camera and display screen.

The clinic will offer teeth whitening, implant treatments, porcelain veneers, fillings and oral health advice.

Nadim, who is married to Nosheen, has invested more than 250,000 in establishing the clinic.

He says he chose Preston to launch the venture because he believes there is a great demand for dentistry in the city and it is a ideal location.

He discovered that the city is one of the worst places in the country for dental decay in children.

He said: "I specifically chose Preston because it is a great geographical base for the whole of Lancashire.

"I also believe there is a gap in the market in Preston for a new approach to dentistry, which will involve coaching, healing by advising clients, and genuinely listening to them and their needs.

"Dentistry should always involve the client and the biggest challenge today is communicating with people in a real and meaningful way and explaining procedures properly."

Nadim's wife Nosheen, a primary school teacher, has helped design the new clinic, formerly a DVD and video shop, with the emphasis on soothing and calming decor, music, and aromatherapy.

Nadim, 30, said: "This will be a mind and body clinic and we will look at how oral disease affects the body, and vice versa."
