Death of ‘dedicated’ former Fylde mayor

Tributes have been paid to a former mayor of Fylde who has died following an illness.

Coun John Prestwich passed away in Trinity Hospice in Blackpool on Friday.

The Conservative councillor for Kilnhouse ward was Fylde’s mayor in 2007, and served as mayor’s consort in the 1990s when his wife Dawn, also a councillor, wore the mayoral chains.

Colleagues at Fylde Council today paid tribute to Mr Prestwich.

Coun David Eaves, Fylde Council leader, said: “John was a tremendously kind and knowledgeable person who was dedicated to serving the residents of Kilnhouse and Fylde.

“He had chaired the local residents’ association and was always busy in providing better facilities for the people of his ward.

“His work as the company director for an international business made him a highly effective councillor.

“He will be missed by members of all parties.”

A funeral service will be held at 1pm on June 14, before a 2pm service at Lytham Park Crematorium.
