Deadline to nominate sporting hero

Nominations close today for recognition at one of Preston’s most popular sporting events.

The eighth annual MWR Solicitors Preston Sports Awards will be held on Friday, March 8, at Preston Guild Hall.

The awards aim to give clubs a platform to recognise their volunteers who go the extra mile.

Councillor Tom Burns, cabinet member for advice services, culture and leisure, said: “I would urge everyone to complete a nomination form to reward the endeavours of your club and team mates.”

Nomination forms are available from Preston’s leisure centres or Visitor Information Centre and can also be downloaded from.preston.gov.uk

The award categories are: coach of the year, club of the year, volunteer of the year for 16-24 year olds, volunteer of the year over 25s, rising star, achievement of the year for male and female juniors, senior achievement of the year, disabled athlete of the year, team performance of the year junior and senior, school team of the year for primary and secondary, community organisation of the year, higher/further education team of the year, special recognition/service to sport, and the lifetime achievement award.
