This Preston stylist is used to treating her clients like A-listers.
So when the opportunity arose to style actual celebrities, Shruty Stephenson had only one answer.
The mum-of-two, who owns the Scream hair salon, in Lostock Hall, joined a team of hairdressers to crimp and coiffure the cream of the small screen last week at the star-studded National Television Awards after being hand-picked by a former colleague.
Shruty said: “After completing my scholarship with L’Oreal ID I had established a number of contacts and one of them contacted me to see if I would be interested in styling the stars of Emmerdale.
“Obviously I jumped at the chance.”
After being whisked away to the capital with all expenses paid, Shruty, who has styled Sky 1’s Got To Dance judges, Adam Garcia and Kimberley Wyatt with her senior stylist Stephanie for a West End show, joined the team at a hotel near the O2 Arena where the prestigious event would be held.
She said: “We worked with the make-up company, Art Deco, who were doing all the make-up for the celebrities and we had around three hours to finish all 15 cast members to ensure they were red carpet ready; it was quite a surreal afternoon.”
And there were no diva demands or temper tantrums from the great and good of British soap.
“They were all really lovely and we had a great laugh and a joke with them, it was just like having a client; we showed them what we were using and recommended certain products to them. “At the end of the day they are normal people and just want to be treated like that - even if they are a celebrity!”
Shruty opened her own salon after completing a two year hairdressing course at Preston College in just nine months and entered into a two year programme with L’Oreal, representing the North West and working with the industry’s best hairdressers - including Lady Gaga’s wigmaker, Charlie Le Mindu, in Paris.
The future holds bigger and brighter plans for Shruty who is looking to work at London Fashion Week next season and the Inside Soap awards which are coming up later this year.
But with her workload taking off Shruty says her viewing time has become somewhat limited: “I am a big soap fan and I used to watch Emmerdale a lot.
“Nowadays I’m so busy, sadly I don’t get time to sit down and watch it anymore!”
