The team recorded 651 cars passing them on St George’s Road and recorded 11 seat belt offences, two speeding offences and one driver on their mobile telephone.

On Harewood Road, where 179 cars passed the volunteers, 18 offences were recorded including 11 for speeding, six seat belt offences and one driver using their mobile phone.

A spokesman said: “This initiative is about education not enforcement.

“Community Roadwatch are volunteers that help Lancashire Constabulary keep local roads safe for the public.

“Their contribution is invaluable.”
