A man who died after an altercation in Preston has been named locally as 50-year-old Steve Whitney.

Mr Whitney was found with a stab wound at a house in Fishwick Parade at 6am on Sunday and later died at the Royal Preston Hospital.

He is believed to be from Preston, but did not live at that address.

Police said a 63-year-old man from Scotland was detained by police on the M6 in Cumbria yesterday, and is still being questionned on suspicion of murder.

A post mortem examination was due to be carried out today to try to establish a cause of death.

No further updates have been issued.
