A seven-year-old boy is “distraught” after thieves took a priceless family heirloom from a garage.

Ben Margerison’s battery-powered 50’s style vintage Ferrari was the sole item that was taken from his parent’s garage on Friday morning.

He keeps asking me why anyone would take it and if the bad men are going to come back for him.

Nicola Margerison

Mum, Nicola, said: “It’s not like we can just go to Toys R Us and buy him a new one.

“My dad bought each of them as a shell and did them up for each of the grandchildren.”

The white car, with it’s distinctive replica Ferrari badge was taken from the property in Fulwood, in broad daylight, on February 27, when two men bundled it into the back of a van.

Nicola said: “A neighbour’s daughter saw the two men - one in a high vis jacket - come into the garden and go to the garage.

“But my dad is a builder so she thought they were just something to do with him.”

The car, which is usually kept elsewhere, was only in the Nicola and her partner, Rob’s garage, because it needed a wire repairing.

“It was hidden under a lot of stuff so they must have had a good old rummage around,” said Nicola, who has another son, five-year-old William.

“And it isn’t a light item so it wouldn’t have been easy to just take.”

Police are now looking at CCTV footage to see if they can trace the van that was seen in the area.

But that is little consolation to Ben who is now worried that the men might come for him.

Nicola said: “Ben is just gutted.

“He keeps asking me why anyone would take it and if the bad men are going to come back for him.

“I’d just like people to keep an eye out for it being sold or anything like that.

“It’s priceless and it’s something that he could have kept and given to his own children.”
