A yob who launched a vicious baseball attack on a paramedic as he responded to an emergency call has been jailed for eight years.
Lewis Westwood, 19, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm after fracturing trainee paramedic James Steel’s skull in a drink and drug fuelled assault.
Westwood, of Hillbrook Road, Leyland, grinned and smirked at his mother throughout the hearing at Preston Crown Court on Monday.
The court heard Mr Steel had stepped in to protect his partner as he feared Westwood was going to attack her with the bat in Leyland.
Both paramedics have now returned to work but Mr Steel has ongoing problems with his hearing as a result of the attack on October 13 last year.
