Student sexually assaulted on way home

Police are appealing for information after a 19-year-old student was sexually assaulted as she walked home late at night.

Officers are trying to trace a man in his late thirties or early forties who approached the woman on Garstang Road, Preston near to its junction with St George’s Road at around 4am on Wednesday.

The man, who was carrying a plastic bag, is alleged to have made a number of inappropriate sexual comments before subjecting the woman to a sexual assault.

The woman managed to hit him on the head, after which he made off.

DS Jerry Sturgess of Preston CID said: “This was a frightening attack on a young student who was been left very shaken up following this worrying ordeal.

“If anyone has any information about this, I would urge them to come forward.”

The man is described as Asian, around 5ft 6ins, of small build with slightly curly short dark hair. He was possibly driving a small dark coloured car.
