Garden equipment and power tools were stolen after sheds on allotments on Osborne Road in Morecambe were burgled.

Police said that overnight between August 18 and 19 a number of sheds were broken into and items stolen.

Police issued the following crime prevention advice:

Allotment owners might want to consider taking valuable items home with them.

Allotment sheds are often left unattended for extended periods and it is therefore important to regularly review their security (this applies to any shed/garage).

Get a good quality chain and padlock and use them to lock your expensive tools and garden equipment together inside your shed.

Make sure the lock on your shed door or tool store is high quality with a tamper-proof hasp.

Consider marking your property visibly and also with a UV marker, and then putting up a sign telling potential thieves that your tools are marked.

Please be extra vigilant when you are down on the allotments.

If you see anyone who you don’t recognise in the area or any suspicious activity then please contact the police on 101.

Please bring these incidents to the attention of any friends or family members who have an allotment and ask them to sign up to In The Know at www.stayintheknow.co.uk and choose ‘Allotment Watch’ as one of their Community Interests.
