Two people from Preston have been charged after an eight-week-old baby was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police launched an investigation in January after the baby girl was taken to Royal Preston Hospital in the early hours of Monday, January 12, suffering from injuries including a bleed to the brain.
Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service two people have now been charged.
Jonathan Gerrard, 26, of Woodside Avenue, Preston and Katrina Westworth, 22, of Oban Crescent, Preston are both charged with Section 18 causing grievous bodily harm with intent and child neglect.
The offences are alleged to have been committed at an address in Preston between January 9 and January 11.
They are due to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, September 17.
The child, now nine months old, was treated at Manchester Children’s Hospital but has been discharged and is described as making steady progress.
