The case against a neighbour accused of stealing an elderly friend’s savings in the week before his death has been thrown out of court after a judge directed jurors to formally find the defendant not guilty.

Anthony King, 34, formerly of Elliott Street, Preston, walked free from court after Judge Recorder Earlam said there was no case to answer.

Trial proceedings started on Tuesday at the Session’s House court, but King has since been cleared of stealing around £45,000.
